The Book of Judges tells the journey of Samson, a story that addresses the themes of pride, disobedience, and redemption. Most artwork surrounding this story usually portrays the heroic aspects of it. This project was a way to show the story’s tragedy and despair and to translate that into a visual medium.
One of the inspirations for these posters was some of the artwork that can be found in old literature, mainly in diagrams of tools or anatomy. The sterile and eerie nature of those illustrations was a very fitting aesthetic for this chronicle.
In order to portray the rough and gritty nature of the time period, I added noise and a few textures to help further integrate that into the design.
Like mentioned previously, most of the artwork of this story showcases the iconic scene of Samson pushing down the two columns, I wanted to contrast that by showing what may have happened just seconds before or after that event.
