I designed 3 dust jackets that quickly and effectively showcases the atmosphere and tone of some of H.G. Wells' most popular novels.
The Invisible Man is an eery and grimdark tale that surrounds a scientist whom's experiment-gone-wrong causes him to go on a rampage of cruelty and violence. A large portion of the story takes place at an inn and a town in the 1890s. I wanted to establish the setting and time period in the background of the cover.

I used the lamp post as a way to not only help give an indication of the time period but to help convey that the "Stranger" is invisible by having the light shine through his ear.
The Island of Dr. Moreau is a very mysterious and unsettling story. In order to capture these feelings I decided to portray a relatively cold and minimal design in warm colors. I wanted to encase the title in a spider's web to represent the captured or trapped element in the story.
The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel that chronicles the events of an alien invasion, through the perspective of the narrator and his brother. This covers primary focus was to display the aftermath of such a catastrophic event, but not through death or destruction.
I went with relatively traditional fonts for the author and novel name on the spine. The reason being I wanted to add a "classic" touch to the dust jacket.
Spreads
With the Island of Dr. Moreau being such a mysterious yet haunting story, the copy lends itself to keeping a relatively classic appeal, while the chapter headers feature a typeface that utilizes sharp serifs that can be attributed to Dr. Moreau's vivisection methods.
