The goal of this Stretch Armstrong Website was to create a website for an older/vintage product that is having an upcoming milestone anniversary. I chose Stretch Armstrong due to a strong intrigue I had for the figure at a young age.
Due to Stretch Armstrong not having a TV show, comic book, or movie unlike many other vintage action figure lines, I had the freedom of establishing the toy’s tone and overall style within the website. I wanted to establish an aesthetic that harkens back to classic superhero cartoons, such as Spider-Man (1994) and Batman: The Animated Series (1992) while also integrating the simplicity and sleekness of the modern era.
The color palette in this project needed to feel energetic and vibrant, being this website is targeted towards the younger/modern audience. Thus, I wanted to ensure it kept a visual interest for them. I referenced various sources for the color palette, ranging from comic books from the golden age to other vintage action figures and toys released in the same era as Stretch.
Similar to the color palette, I designed the type to be legible as well as exciting. When considering the target audience being much younger, the font needed to have a good amount of energy and motion, due to this I chose italics, and to keep the superhero tone I decided a sans serif font would be best in order to keep the bold and striking aesthetic.
For the Illustration style, I primarily used a varying line thickness, ranging from extremely thick to thin in order to capture the playful and dynamic nature of the action figure.
